For Composers / Authors

What follows is a general outline of requirements for any composer/author wishing to become a member of JASRAC for administration of his/her musical copyrights by JASRAC.  

• He/she must hold copyrights to one or more musical works which have been or are definitely to be publicly released by another party in Japan in printed or recorded form, through broadcast or performance or by similar means within the past year.  
• Those who do not hold Japanese citizenship must submit a certificate of residence.  
• The base of his/her copyright activities must be in Japan.  
• He/she must agree with JASRAC's basic objectives prescribed in the JASRAC's Articles of Association.  He/she may entrust JASRAC with all of his/her music copyrights, or choose to entrust only certain portions of his/her copyrights in accordance with the categories of rights delineated in the Stipulations for Copyright Trust Contract.

For Music Publishing Companies

What follows is a general outline of requirements for any musical publishing company wishing to become a member of JASRAC for administration of its musical copyrights by JASRAC.  

• The company must hold copyrights to one or more musical works which have been or are definitely to be publicly released by another party in Japan in printed or recorded form, through broadcast or performance or by similar means.  
• The company must be a legal person.  The business contents in its Articles of Association must contain the following businesses as a right-owner music publisher.  
  • a)　Administration of musical copyright
  • b)　Promotion of the exploitation of musical works
  • c)　Planning and manufacture of original sound masters of compact discs, videos, etc.  
  • d)　Publication of sheet music
• The company must agree with JASRAC's basic objectives prescribed in the JASRAC's Articles of Association.  The company may entrust JASRAC with all of its music copyrights, or choose to entrust only certain portions of its copyrights in accordance with the categories of rights delineated in the Stipulations for Copyright Trust Contract.
