On September 9, 2024, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) distributed copyright royalties to rights holders, including authors, composers, and music publishers. For the 2024-09 period, the amount distributed for was  34,638,055,121 JPY, up 3.3% from the same period of the previous fiscal year, marking a record high for September distributions. (*1)

JASRAC distributes copyright royalties paid by music users to rights holders on a quarterly basis (March, June, September, and December). The 2024-09 distribution primarily reflects royalty income between January 2024 and June 2024. (*2)

Major live concerts, etc.
Resulting from continued market growth driven by higher admission fees (ticket prices), which is the basis for royalty calculation, distribution for "Performances, etc." was approximately 1.46 billion JPY (up 13.6% from the same period of the previous fiscal year). Additionally, the number of performances by both domestic and international artists continued to increase, resulting in distribution for "Major live concerts, etc." of approximately 1.09 billion JPY (up 17.6% from the same period of the previous fiscal year).
Interactive transmissions Online video and music subscription markets continued to show steady growth, resulting in distribution of approximately 12.84 billion JPY (up 12.7% from the same period of the previous fiscal year).

The number of works subject to distribution was 2,642,587 works. Rights holders entitled to receive royalties, including distribution through music publishers, amounted to 83,577 writers and 3,105 music publishers. Furthermore, royalties are distributed to 343,730 writers and 40,420 music publishers through 118 foreign sister societies.

JASRAC will continue to strive for the development of the music industry and music culture by ensuring appropriate compensation for creators and rights holders.

(*1) Upon payment of royalties to right holders, deductions including administrative expenses and income tax are made from this amount.
(*2) The time required from receipt to distribution of royalties differs depending on the usage category.
