About JASRACMessage from the Chairman

This is ISHIHARA Shinichi, author and Chairman of JASRAC.

Since its establishment in 1939, JASRAC has consistently administered music copyrights amid changing times - overcoming prewar and postwar periods, from the era of rapid economic growth to the present - so that music can be enjoyed by everyone.

In the operations of JASRAC, music creators who are authors and composers participate as Full Members and Board Directors. The position of Chairman has also been held by a representative of these creators.

As an author and a Full Member, I have served as Councilor, Auditor, and Director of JASRAC. With the support of creator and music publisher Full Members, I have now assumed the position of Chairman in 2026.

The role of JASRAC is to distribute royalties paid by music users to right holders such as creators and music publishers. Through the distribution of these royalties, creators can devote themselves to their creative activities. This, in turn, gives birth to new music.

This is the cycle of musical culture, and it is only through a smooth and continuous cycle that music can flourish. It brings to mind the human body, sustained by the circulation of blood.

It is no longer a dream but a reality that Japanese music is crossing oceans and loved by people around the world. The Japanese government also has high expectations for music culture as an export industry.

The blossoming flower of music stays close to the hearts of people. Even in places afflicted by conflicts and disasters, flowers of music will surely bloom. I firmly believe that these flowers bring peace.
