On August 5, 2025, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) updated KENDRIX (https://kendrix.jp/), a management system for musical works information equipped with a blockchain-based proof of existence (PoE) framework and eKYC functions.

New function made available in KENDRIX

■ Function to register distribution shares based on the degree of creative contribution

Music creators who have concluded a Trust Contract with JASRAC can submit JASRAC work notifications produced based on work information and right owner information registered with KENDRIX. Along with this function to submit work notifications, creators can now register through KENDRIX distribution shares based on the degree of creative contribution.

[Basic principles on distribution shares]

- When both lyrics and music exist, shares shall be equally divided between lyrics and music.

- When multiple right owners exist for both lyrics and music, shares shall be equally divided among the right owners in each category.

Example: Shares are equally divided among three lyricists and two music composers

[Distribution shares based on the degree of creative contribution]

- Distribution shares reflecting the degree of creative contribution and not equally divided among right owners

- Shares will be registered by a representative, subject to consultation and agreement among the parties concerned

* When both lyrics and music exist, the basic principle that shares shall be equally divided between lyrics and music will remain unchanged.

Example: Musical work created by three lyricists and two music composers; the shares for composers are based on their respective degree of creative contribution

To apply the above, all right owners within the category in which the distribution shares are based on the degree of creative contribution must satisfy the following conditions:

- They have concluded a Trust Contract with JASRAC (KENDRIX account type is "Business+")

- They are project members for the relevant musical work (they have been invited by the owner of the musical work through KENDRIX's "Project" function and have accepted the invitation)

The environment for music creation has become increasingly international and diverse with factors such as co-writing. From the standpoint that reflecting the degree of creative contribution in distribution shares will become more necessary and reasonable, setting distribution shares based on the degree of creative contribution have been enabled for JASRAC-administered works from April 2021.

KENDRIX's target users are music creators who are inclined toward new styles of music creation. It can efficiently support consensus-building among the parties concerned through its "Project" and "Comment" functions. In this context, easy online registration of distribution shares based on the degree of creative contribution has been made possible.
