On March 11, 2024, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) distributed copyright royalties to rights holders including authors, composers, and music publishers for the 2024-03 period. The amount distributed for the relevant period was 37,287,126,155 JPY, which is 102.4% compared to the same period in the previous year (*1).

As a result, the amount distributed in fiscal 2023 (Cumulative amount for 2023-06, -09, -12 and 2024-03 distribution periods) was finalized, which was 135,126,441,396 JPY. This is 107.5% compared to the amount for the previous fiscal year, which was the largest in history. It is the first time that the distribution amount exceeded 130 billion JPY. This distribution primarily reflects royalty income in the second half of fiscal 2022 (October 2022 to March 2023) and the first half of fiscal 2023 (April to September 2023) (*2).

Royalties were distributed to 3,121,804 works in fiscal 2023. It is the first time that the number of works subject to distribution exceeded 3 million. Rights holders who were entitled to receive those royalties, including distribution through music publishers, amount to 85,801 writers and 3,071 music publishers. Furthermore, royalties are distributed to 414,254 writers and 51,233 music publishers through 120 foreign sister societies.
