Distribution Results for 2023-03 Period and Fiscal 2022
-Amount Distributed in Fiscal 2022 Was the Largest at 125.6 Billion JPY in History-

On March 13, 2023, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) distributed copyright royalties to rights holders including authors, composers, and music publishers for the 2023-03 period. The amount distributed for the relevant period was 36,422,837,819 JPY, which is 110.4% compared to the same period in the previous year (*1).

As a result, the amount distributed in fiscal 2022 (Cumulative amount for 2022-06, -09, -12 and 2023-03 distribution periods.) was finalized, which was 125,647,864,749 JPY. This is 108.3% compared to the amount of fiscal 2020 (120,634,821,520 JPY) which was the highest amount in history. This distribution primarily reflects royalty income in the second half of fiscal 2021 (October 2021 to March 2022) and the first half of fiscal 2022 (April to September 2022) (*2).

Performances, etc.
Major live concerts, etc.

As the market is on a recovery trend compared to the previous fiscal year, which was significantly affected by Covid-19, the distribution for "Performances, etc." was about 5.05 billion JPY (157.3% of the same period of the previous fiscal year), and the distribution for "Major live concerts, etc." was about 1.89 billion JPY (503.4% of the same period of the previous fiscal year).

Karaoke (at places of entertainment)
Online karaoke

As the market is on a recovery trend compared to the previous fiscal year, which was significantly affected by Covid-19, the distribution for "Karaoke (at places of entertainment)" was about 10 billion JPY (107.5% of the same period of the previous fiscal year), and the distribution for "Online karaoke" was about 5.8 billion JPY (111.8% of the same period of the previous fiscal year).

Interactive transmissions

As the markets for online video services and music subscription services show steady growth, the distribution for "Interactive transmissions" was about 41.46 billion JPY (116.4% of the same period of the previous fiscal year). This is the first time that the distribution amount for interactive transmissions exceeded 40 billion JPY.

Remuneration for public transmission for school lessons

JASRAC has started the distribution of the remuneration received from the Society for the Administration of Remuneration for Public Transmission for School Lessons (SARTRAS). The remuneration for fiscal 2021 was received twice in total and each is distributed in March and June of 2023 respectively. The amount distributed in March was about 42 million JPY.


Royalties were distributed to 2,990,954 works in fiscal 2022. Rights holders who are entitled to receive royalties, including distribution through music publishers, amount to 79,765 writers and 3,025 music publishers .Furthermore, royalties are distributed to 392,345 writers and 48,888 music publishers through 120 foreign sister societies.

JASRAC will continue to strive for the development of the music industry and music culture by returning to creators and rights holders the compensation they deserve.

*1. When the money is wired to right holders, deductions will be made from the aforementioned distribution amounts, including administrative expenses and income tax.
*2. Time required from receipt to distribution of royalties differs depending on the category.
