Announcement of the 2022 JASRAC Awards

The Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) announced the 2022 JASRAC Awards on May 18, 2022.

The work "GURENGE" (written and performed by LiSA, composed by KAYOKO KUSANO, published by SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING (JAPAN) INC) has received the Gold Award two years in a row. "HOMURA" (written by YUKI KAJIURA and LiSA, composed by YUKI KAJIURA, published by SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING (JAPAN) INC) has received the Silver Award, and the work "DRIED FLOWERS" (written and composed by YUURI, published by LEVIEPLUS) has received this year's Bronze Award. Following last year "NARUTO SHIPPUDEN BACKGROUND MUSIC" (composed by YASUHARU TAKANASHI, published by TV TOKYO MUSIC INC) has again received the International Award, while the work "Dynamite" (written and composed by JESSICA AGOMBAR and DAVID STEWART, original publisher STELLAR SONGS LIMITED, sub-publisher SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING (JAPAN) INC) was awarded the Foreign Work Award.

JASRAC annually presents the JASRAC Awards to the authors, composers and music publishers of works which have received the largest royalty distributions in the previous fiscal year. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Awards since it was founded in 1982.

The Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards are presented to domestic works which have earned the three largest amounts, while the Foreign Work Award is conferred on the foreign work earning the most royalties. The International Award goes to the domestic work which has received the largest amount of royalties from foreign copyright societies.

In fiscal 2021, royalties were distributed to 2,826,076 works. The number of rightsholders receiving royalties, including those receiving distributions through music publishers, was 76,252 writers and 2,895 music publishers. Furthermore, royalties were distributed to 383,105 writers and 48,318 music publishers through 117 foreign sister organizations. The recipients of the JASRAC Awards were selected among these works.
