Announcement of the 2023 JASRAC Awards

The Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) announced the 2023 JASRAC Awards on May 24, 2023.

The work "DRIED FLOWERS" (written and composed by YUURI, published by LEVIEPLUS) has received the Gold Award. "Into The Night" (written and composed by Ayase, published by SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING (JAPAN) INC.) has received the Silver Award, and the work "Zankyosanka" (written by aimerrhythm, composed by TOBINAI MASAHIRO, published by SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING (JAPAN) INC.) has received this year's Bronze Award. Following last year "NARUTO SHIPPUDEN BACKGROUND MUSIC" (composed by TAKANASHI YASUHARU, published by TV TOKYO MUSIC INC.) has again received the International Award, while the work "Butter" (written and composed by JENNA ANDREWS, ROB GRIMALDI and five others, original publisher WC MUSIC CORP, MASTER SUITE and ten other companies, sub-publisher WARNER CHAPPELL MUSIC JAPAN KK, SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING (JAPAN) INC., and YAMAHA MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT HOLDINGS INC.) was awarded the Foreign Work Award.

JASRAC annually presents the JASRAC Awards to the authors, composers and music publishers of works which have received the largest royalty distributions in the previous fiscal year. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the Awards since it was founded in 1982.

The Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards are presented to domestic works which have earned the three largest amounts, while the Foreign Work Award is conferred on the foreign work earning the most royalties. The International Award goes to the domestic work which has received the largest amount of royalties from foreign copyright societies.

In fiscal 2022, royalties were distributed to 2,990,954 works. The number of rightsholders receiving royalties, including those receiving distributions through music publishers, was 79,765 writers and 3,025 music publishers. Furthermore, royalties were distributed to 392,345 writers and 48,888 music publishers through 120 foreign sister organizations. The recipients of the JASRAC Awards were selected among these works.
