Distribution Results for the 2022-12 Period
- Amount Distributed was 30.1 Billion JPY, 109.7% Compared to the 2021-12 Period -
On December 12, 2022, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) distributed copyright royalties to rights holders including authors, composers, and music publishers for the 2022-12 period. The amount distributed for the relevant period was 30,156,708,245 JPY, which is 109.7% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. This is the first time the amount distributed in December has exceeded 30 billion JPY.
JASRAC distributes copyright royalties paid by music users to rights holders on a quarterly basis (March, June, September, and December). This distribution primarily reflects the royalty income between April 2022 and September 2022.

As the market is on a recovery trend compared to the fiscal 2021, which was significantly affected by Covid-19, the distribution for "Performances, etc." was about 1.10 billion JPY (136.9% of the same period of the previous fiscal year), and the distribution for "Major live concerts, etc." was about 520 million JPY (642.3% of the same period of the previous fiscal year). |

As the market is on a recovery trend compared to the fiscal 2021, which was significantly affected by Covid-19, the distribution for "Karaoke (at places of entertainment)" was about 2.26 billion JPY (108.7% of the same period of the previous fiscal year), and 1.46 billion JPY (119.1% of the same period of the previous fiscal year) for "Online karaoke." |

Interactive transmissions |
As the online video service market shows steady growth and the number of subscribers to music subscription services is increasing, the distribution for "Interactive transmissions" was about 10.07 billion JPY (113.2% of the same period of the previous fiscal year). |
The number of works subject to distribution was 2,290,552 works. Rights holders who are entitled to receive royalties, including distribution through music publishers, amount to 69,432 writers and 2,821 music publishers. Furthermore, royalties are distributed to 295,740 writers and 34,973 music publishers through 113 foreign sister societies.
JASRAC will continue to strive for the development of the music industry and music culture by returning to creators and rights holders the compensation they deserve.
