On October 31, 2022, JASRAC officially launched "KENDRIX," a management system for musical works information equipped with blockchain-based proof of existence (PoE) framework and eKYC functions.

■ What is KENDRIX?
KENDRIX is a DX platform for creators based on the concept "To a world where every creator can take part in the Creation Ecosystem." It aims to enable music creators to securely release their works and to lower the barriers of various procedures required to receive legitimate remuneration.

The service is free and available to anyone, whether amateur or professional.

■ Functions of KENDRIX

When creators register their music (audio files) with KENDRIX, the following information will be registered on the blockchain (files in the process of production can also be registered):

・Hash value of the audio file
・Time stamp
・User information, title and version information (multiple audio files can be registered to a single musical work information as their versions)

Based on the above, KENDRIX enables objective certification of when and who owned an audio file and publication of a "PoE page" displaying the information registered on the blockchain.

When releasing musical works on online distribution platforms and social media, creators can attach the URL of the PoE page. This will let third parties know that the creator has acquired PoE, which is expected to act as a deterrent to illegal use.



Furthermore, by implementing eKYC (online ID verification function), authenticated KENDRIX users will be able to offer PoE-attached musical works information to various services linked with KENDRIX.

Although the initial service to be linked to will be the JASRAC's service (online membership agreements / submission of work registrations*), in the future, musical works information will be provided to services outside of JASRAC as well. *Online submission of work registrations is a function scheduled to be added in February 2023.

At this timing of the official launch of KENDRIX, the criteria of "third party uses" in the requirements for membership applications to JASRAC has been eased, and the period required to complete agreement procedures has been shortened. Please refer here for details (in Japanese only).



■ Background of Blockchain used in KENDRIX
KENDRIX uses a rights management blockchain system developed by the R&D Center in Sony Group Corporation (hereinafter "the Sony Group").

By utilizing the above blockchain for rights management, it aims to become a foundation for creating a scheme which allows individual creators, music-related companies/organizations, and other stakeholders to distribute revenues with transparency while maintaining privacy.

Currently, JASRAC is preparing to launch a consortium to realize this concept with technical support from the Sony Group. There are plans to broadly invite participants to the consortium once preparation is complete.
