On September 9, 2022, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) distributed copyright royalties to rights holders including authors, composers, and music publishers for the 2022-09 period. The amount distributed for the relevant period was 30,667,782,673 JPY, which is 106.1% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. (Administrative expenses, income tax etc. are deducted from this amount.)

JASRAC distributes copyright royalties paid by music users to rights holders on a quarterly basis (March, June, September, and December). This distribution primarily reflects royalty income in the 1st half of 2022 (January 2022 to June 2022).

Major live concerts, etc.
As the market is on a recovery trend compared to the fiscal 2021 which was significantly affected by Covid-19, the distribution for "Performances, etc." was about 1.05 billion JPY (155.5% of the same period of the previous fiscal year), and the distribution for "Major live concerts, etc." was about 300 million JPY (1848.0% of the same period of the previous fiscal year).

Interactive transmissions
Music subscription service and online video service markets still maintained their strength, resulting in distribution of approximately 10.59 billion JPY (119.5% of the same period of the previous fiscal year). This is the first time that the amount of distribution for Interactive transmissions exceeds 10 billion JPY in a single distribution period.

The number of works subject to distribution was 2,345,521 works. Rights holders who are entitled to receive royalties, including distribution through music publishers, amount to 70,518 writers and 2,825 music publishers. Furthermore, royalties are distributed to 318,290 writers and 37,917 music publishers through 114 foreign sister societies.

JASRAC will continue to strive for the development of the music industry and music culture by returning to creators and rights holders the compensation they deserve.
