JASRAC Fiscal 2021 Business Affairs

The collection of royalties of the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) for FY2021 was 116.73 billion JPY, and the distribution of royalties for FY2021 was 115.97 billion JPY.

Collection of royalties increased by 4.08 billion JPY compared to FY2020. The COVID-19 pandemic continued to have a significant impact on our whole society and economy, and a tough situation remained for restaurants, karaoke using facilities, and other businesses. In the meantime, interactive transmissions remained strong driven by the rapid progress of digitization and going online. There were also signs of recovery in concerts and events due to the ease of some restrictions on taking place. These factors resulted in an overall increase over FY2020, and the second highest amount in our history next to FY2019.

Distribution of royalties decreased by 4.66 billion JPY from FY2020. While performances, etc. and online karaoke declined significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, interactive transmissions remained strong. As a whole, FY2021 was the third-highest amount in our history following FY2019, although it did not reach the record-high amount of FY2020.
