On September 10, 2021, JASRAC distributed copyright royalties to rights holders including authors, composers and music publishers for the 2021-09 period. The amount distributed for the relevant period was 28,909,775,450 JPY, which is 98.0% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Administrative expenses, income tax etc. are deducted.)

JASRAC distributes copyright royalties paid by music users to rights holders on a quarterly basis (March, June, September and December). This distribution primarily reflects royalty income in the first half of 2021 (January 2021 to June 2021). The distribution results of many fields of use are affected due to COVID-19.

< Performances, Major live concerts, etc. >

Due to a decrease in the number of concerts and reduction in scale of concerts, the distribution for "Performances, etc." was about 670 million JPY (42.2% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year), and the distribution for "Major live concerts, etc." was about 16.58 million JPY (2.9% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year).

In the same period of the previous fiscal year, there was a series of product launches cancelled or postponed. In this period, there is a recovery trend, and the distribution was about 2.09 billion JPY (148.2% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year).

< Reproduction for advertisements and Reproduction for games >

Due to an increase in the number of advertisements using JASRAC repertoire, the distribution for "Reproduction for advertisements" was about 450 million JPY (141.3% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year). Due to an increase in reproduction fees for game apps, the distribution for "Reproduction for games" was about 820 million JPY (113.2% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year).

Due to the continuous expansion of subscription service and online video service markets, the distribution was about 8.86 billion JPY (101.8% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year).

Royalties were distributed to 2,217,496 works. The number of rights holders who received royalties, including distribution through music publishers, was 67,360 writers and 2,724 music publishers. In addition, royalties were distributed to 300,882 writers and 35,964 music publishers through 112 foreign sister organizations.

JASRAC will continue to strive for the development of the music industry and music culture through the distribution of remuneration back to creators and rights holders.
