JASRAC Decides to Make No Charge for Application of the Copyright Trust Contract

The Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) decided to make no charge for the application fee paid by right holders such as authors, composers and music publishers when concluding a copyright trust contract.

amendments

Until August 31, 2020, right holders are required to pay an application fee (JPY 27,500 for creators, JPY 82,500 for music publishers) when concluding a copyright trust contract.

JASRAC decided to abolish the system and make it free of charge since the expense rates has been reduced due to the increase of royalty distribution and more efficient management operations compared to the time when the system of application fee was introduced. In addition, it would further enhance the stronger protection of rights and provide more convenience to users by being entrusted by more rightsholders. The stipulation regarding the application fee for administration trust contract has been deleted based on the resolution which was approved during the Ordinary General Meeting of Members on June 24, 2020. The change will be applied from September 1, 2020 (Applications submitted after July 1).
