Shunichi TOKURA Re-elected Chairman of JASRAC
On March 19, 2014, an election for chairmanship was held upon the expiration of the previous term (March 31, 2014), and JASRAC Full Member Shunichi TOKURA was re-elected (third-term) and assumed his role April 1, 2014.
The term of office is from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2016.
New directors and auditors will be elected during an Ordinary General Meeting of Members scheduled for June 25, 2014.
Shunichi TOKURA profile
Shunichi TOKURA started playing the violin at age 4 and acquired a basic music education in Germany where he spent his elementary and high school years. Later, he debuted as a composer while still a student at the Faculty of Law of Gakushuin University. He further studied composition, conducting as well as screening and studio production in the United States of America and Great Britain, and has been active in the field of music around the world. He has served as a member of the Council for Cultural Affairs, a managing director for the Japan Composer’s Association, a director for the All Japan Authors and Composers’ Association and the Japan Composers & Arrangers Association, and an advisor to the Song Writer’s Union of Japan. Some of his most famous works are “UFO” (Pink Lady), “AZUSA 2-GOU” (Karyudo), “JOHNNY ENO DENGON” (Pedro & Capricious), and “DOUNIMO TOMARANAI” (Linda Yamamoto).
For JASRAC, Shunichi TOKURA is an 11-term councilor (one term as council chairman), three-term director as well as a member of JASRAC’s International Committee, chairman for the Broadcast Committee and the Articles of Association Amendment Committee. On August 12, 2010, he was inaugurated as chairman of JASRAC.
