On March 22, 2023, JASRAC conducted an update to the musical works information management system "KENDRIX" (https://kendrix.jp/), incorporating a proof of existence (PoE) feature utilizing blockchain technology and eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) functionality.

■New Functions of KENDRIX

1. Upgrading function for JASRAC Members

Currently, KENDRIX has two types of accounts.

The previous version only allowed users who have entered into an administration trust contract with JASRAC through KENDRIX to use this function through their "Business+" account. However, with this update, JASRAC members who have already entered into an administration trust contract with JASRAC can now use KENDRIX through their "Business+" account by following the procedures specified below.

Steps to Upgrade to "Business+" Account for JASRAC Members

(1) Register an account with KENDRIX
(2) Provide necessary information such as name and address
(3) Apply for the upgrade
(4) Enter the upgrade verification code, which will be sent to your home address via mail, into KENDRIX

By registering the musical work information with KENDRIX for obtaining PoE in the course of creation, users can perform the necessary procedures (registering their works with JASRAC) to ensure the receipt of remuneration, without the need to input the same information into multiple systems.

2. Compatibility with MP3 Files

Previously, only WAV files could be registered on KENDRIX. However, through this update, KENDRIX now also supports MP3 files for registration. The registration process with KENDRIX will be easier as MP3 files have smaller file sizes compared to WAV files.

(Reference) Existing Functions of KENDRIX

1. Blockchain-based proof of existence (PoE) framework

When creators register their music (audio files) with KENDRIX, the following information will be registered on the blockchain (files in the process of production can also be registered):

●Hash value of the audio file

●Timestamp

●User information, title and version information (multiple audio files can be registered to a single piece of musical work information as their versions)

Based on the above, KENDRIX enables objective certification of when and who owned an audio file and publication of a "PoE page" displaying the information registered on the blockchain.

2. Online Membership Agreement through eKYC

KENDRIX is linked to the eKYC service that enables online verification of user identity. Users whose identity has been verified through this service can also perform online procedures to enter into a membership agreement with JASRAC.

3. Functionality to Create and Submit Work Notification (Exclusive to "Business+" Accounts)

Users can create work notifications based on the registered musical work information on KENDRIX and submit it to JASRAC online.

4. Functionality to Register Co-authors and Arrangers in the Copyright Information of a Musical Work

Users can add and register co-authors other than themselves to the copyright information including the option to specify their role as an "arranger."
