Shunichi TOKURA Elected Chairman of JASRAC
In an election for JASRAC chairmanship, JASRAC Full Member Shunichi TOKURA was elected by his peers, and assumed his new role August 12, 2010. The term of office concludes in March, 2012.
Former Chairman Toru FUNAMURA will continue to contribute to JASRAC's cause as honorary chairman.
New executive officers (directors and auditors) will be elected during an Extraordinary General Meeting of Members scheduled for September 29, 2010.
Shunichi TOKURA profile
Shunichi TOKURA debuted as a composer while he was still a college student. He has penned numerous hits garnering many Japanese music awards including "The Japan Record Award," "Nihon Kayo Taisho (Japan Popular Song Award)," and the best composer award at the "Tokyo Music Festival." He also composes scores for films and TV, and currently divides his time between Tokyo, London and New York concentrating on musical theater among other projects.
For JASRAC, Shunichi TOKURA is an 11-term councilor (one term as council chairman) and three-term director. He has served as a member of JASRAC's International Committee, as well as chairman for the Broadcast Committee and the Articles of Association Amendment Committee. He is also a managing director for the Japan Composer's Association, a director for the All Japan Authors and Composers' Association and the Japan Composers & Arrangers Association, and an advisor to the Song Writer's Union of Japan.
Some of his most famous works are "UFO," "AZUSA 2-GOU," "JOHNNY ENO DENGON" and "DOUNIMO TOMARANAI." |
