Administrator of rental bulletin board for mobile phones and
man uploading music files are arrested on suspicion of
Copyright Law infringement for illegal music distribution

The Cyber Crime Control Office, Living Environment Section, Department of Community Safety of the Shiga Prefectural Police Department and the Kusatsu Police Station have announced today that they have arrested two men on suspicion of Copyright Law violation (infringement of public transmission rights). A 27-year-old man administering a bulletin board which was opened using a rental bulletin board service for mobile phones was arrested for making JASRAC-administered musical works available for downloading by an indefinite number of persons, and a 40-year-old man was arrested for uploading JASRAC-administered musical works onto the relevant bulletin board.

The two men used a bulletin board titled "DoCoMo Kashubetsu Souko" to receive song requests from general users and to distribute the musical works by uploading the requested music files themselves. According to the police, files of approximately 3,800 works were uploaded onto the bulletin board in question.

Many illegal materials such as music files are uploaded onto rental bulletin boards for mobile phones, causing serious copyright infringement. Illegal music distribution is a hindrance to the development of music culture, and JASRAC vows its continued cooperation with the police in proactively eradicating illegal music transmissions over the Internet.
