JASRAC/KOMCA Joint Statement on Partnership Announced


JASRAC (Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers) and KOMCA (Korea Music Copyright Association) announced the "JASRAC/KOMCA Joint Statement on Partnership" on January 21, 2008 at the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka following the conclusion of the reciprocal representation agreement between the two societies in Seoul on December 10, 2007.

At the signing ceremony, JASRAC Chairman Toru Funamura and KOMCA Chairman Myung Kil Chi signed the Joint Statement, and JASRAC President Mamoru Kato gave the keynote to the Statement.

A celebration party was held and was attended by approximately 170 people including Diet members, Japanese and Korean government officials, music users, right holders, and the press.

JOINT STATEMENT ON PARTNERSHIP


JASRAC and KOMCA concluded a reciprocal representation agreement on December 10, 2007 in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. By signing the agreement, the protection of copyrighted music works in both Japan and Korea will be facilitated, and the acceleration of music culture exchange and its development will be expected.
On this occasion, we mutually agree that establishing and deepening the future-oriented partnership between the two societies will contribute to the enhancement of cultural exchange of not only music but also culture as a whole in both countries, and hereby pledge that we will promote cooperative relationship on the following areas.


1. Enhancement of ties between both societies

Both societies will closely exchange information and views and actively pursue cooperation on human resource education through mutual visits, as well as make efforts to enhance the quality of administration, aiming for adequate protection of music copyright in both countries.

2. Cooperation and assistance for cultural exchange

JASRAC will provide full cooperation and support to KOMCA on the collection and survey of cultural documents and related information concerning Korean music works which are supposed to exist in Japan.

3. Commemoration event

Both societies will work together and co-host an event in order to commemorate the conclusion of the reciprocal representation agreement and to contribute to the promotion of cultural exchange between the two countries.
