This year's JASRAC Awards...

31st JASRAC Awards Winners

Yasushi AKIMOTO with AKB48 members

Lyricist Yasushi AKIMOTO, who won all three Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards the previous year, has dominated the JASRAC Awards once again.  The only songwriters to have achieved a Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards sweep are Tetsuya KOMURO (in 1996) and Yasushi AKIMOTO, and this is the first time in the history of the JASRAC Awards that a songwriter has swept all three awards two years in a row.

The work "HEAVY ROTATION" sung by AKB48, a female idol group, received the Gold Award for the second straight year, and there are only three works (including the aforementioned work) that have accomplished this feat.  Five works in the Top 10 Domestic Works were sung by AKB48, and their songs were not only used in CDs, but also in concert DVDs, game software and Japanese "pachinko" pinball machines.  Members from AKB48 were on hand at the awards ceremony to congratulate the award winners.

What is JASRAC Awards?
JASRAC annually presents the JASRAC Awards to the copyright holders whose musical works represent a large share of the royalty distribution.  The JASRAC Awards are bestowed based on the share of royalties contributed during the one-year period from April to March.  The names of the recipients are as shown in the table above.  The Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards are presented for the three domestic works that gained the three largest totals, while the Foreign Work Award is conferred on the foreign musical work that earned the largest total royalties, and the International Award goes to the work that earned the largest amount of royalties from foreign copyright societies.
